ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have already had one player drafted No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft, and it came last year when former defensive lineman Travon Walker was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2022 Draft.
Now, another Bulldog defender could be drafted No. 1 overall.
This time, it’s outstanding defensive tackle, Jalen Carter. The dominant Bulldog defender is a two-time national champion and consistently bullied opposing offensive lineman throughout his three-year career.
The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and with Justin Fields playing better and better at quarterback, the Bears will likely draft a defender or trade back to accumulate more picks.
If the Bears do stay at No. 1, one NFL insider, Daniel Jeremiah, believes they’ll take Carter with the top pick.

It would be hard to disagree with the pick.
The Bear’s defense was horrific in 2022, especially against the run, giving up 2,674 yards on the ground last year, 2nd worst in the entire NFL. As good as Alabama EDGE defender Will Anderson is, picking Jalen Carter to clog running lanes between the tackles is something Chicago desperately needs.
The Florida native can be a game-changer from the inside, and his ability to rush the quarterback makes him one of the top overall players in the Draft.
The Bears gave up 463 total points during the regular season, worst in the NFL. They also gave up 6.1 yards per play, 2nd worst in the NFL.
Their defense needs help, and they need to start from the inside out. Jalen Carter was as good as it gets in Georgia, and he has a chance to be Georgia’s back-to-back No. 1 pick in late April.
As a Bulldog, Carter made 83 total tackles, six sacks, and forced two fumbles in his career.
