ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs keep winning on the field, and they continue to win over and over on the recruiting trail.
The Bulldogs are off to an excellent start in the 2024 class and add another big-time commitment today in versatile defensive back, Jaylen Heyward.
One of the top defenders not only in Florida, but across the country, Heyward chose Georgia over programs like Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, among others.
What are the Bulldogs getting in Heyward?
Toughness and natural instincts.
Heyward, at 5-foot-11 185-pounds, has a natural nose for the football as a defender. He’s a great athlete who can make plays on both sides of the ball at the high school level, but he’ll come to Athens as one of the hardest-hitting defensive backs in the entire 2024 class.

A versatile defender, Heyward plays plenty of cornerback at Rockledge, but he’ll likely play some STAR once he gets to Athens. He’s an excellent run defender who reacts quickly before the play gets started. He’s a sure tackler and knows how to leave a bruise when he meets the ball carrier.
In coverage, he shows quick feet, has above-average speed, and plays the ball well in the air. He plays hard, he’s tough, and he was consistently one of the best players on the field at all times last year.
As a junior, Heyward made 44 tackles, broke up 8 passes, forced three fumbles, and picked off two passes in coverage.
Where do the Bulldogs go from here?
Kirby Smart and his defensive staff now have two of the top defensive backs on board across the country in the 2024 class.
They landed Heyward today, and they landed high four-star Peyton Woodyard earlier this month.

Georgia sits in an excellent position for another elite safety prospect in 5-star KJ Bolden out of Buford (GA). Right now, Dawg Post believes Georgia is the team to beat for the track-star and two-way athlete.
The Bulldogs now sit at 8 commitments in the 2024 class and will make a real run at the No. 1 class this time next year.
