LOS ANGELESGeorgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart will be without one of the top playmakers on the 2022 national championship team in 2023.

Jalen Carter announced that he is forgoing his final season of eligibility to go to the NFL. The move was not a surprise. Carter is positioned to be one of the top overall players in the NFL Draft this spring.

Carter recovered from injury in the Missouri game to dominate the final games of the Bulldogs’ national title run. His play helped the Dawgs win their second national title in as many seasons.

“These last three years have been exciting,” Carter posted on social media. “I am most thankful to God for the talent and ability he has given me. Without him I am nothing. I can’t thank Coach Smart and his staff enough for their commitment to helping me develop into the best version of myself on and off the field. I also want to thank my position coach Tray Scott. My teammates past/present have built bonds that will last a lifetime, and what we accomplished together will live on forever. I would also like to thank the fans and the entire UGA community. You all make taking the field Between the Hedges special.”

Carter added: “I would like to announce that I am declaring for the NFL Draft. While I am excited for the next chapter I will always be a Dawg.”
