Right before Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs took on Ohio State on Saturday night, they already knew what the stakes were.
With a win over the Buckeyes, Georgia knew they’d have a chance to play the TCU Horned Frogs in the national championship. A well-coached team with Heisman finalist Max Duggan running the show at quarterback, TCU won a thrilling game over No. 2 Michigan 51-45 in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
TCU head coach Sonny Dykes spoke with the College GameDay crew on Monday morning to talk about his team and what impresses him the most about the Georgia Bulldog defense.
“Their combination of size and speed stand out the most”, Dykes said to the ESPN College GameDay crew. “They’re very, very big up front, but those guys aren’t just big guys. They’re athletic. They can run. Redirect. They’re powerful. When you look at their linebackers, they run sideline to sideline and yet they play physical.”

“The same thing in the secondary”, Dykes said. “They have a lot of length. A lot of guys that can run. They’re just a very, very athletic football team. They’ve sent a lot of guys to the NFL and I think this team will be very similar. There’s going to be a lot of guys playing in the game Monday that will go on to play in the NFL. There are not a lot of weaknesses.”
“I’ve got through most of the special teams so far and they’re very sound on special teams”, Dykes continued. They do what they have to do to win football games. They play smart. They play disciplined. They’re obviously very well coached. They do a really good job of playing consistently. The effort is there every down and even when they’re blowing teams out. That’s a real credit to Kirby and his staff.”
The Horned Frogs come into Monday’s national championship game 13-1 with their lone defeat coming in a 31-28 OT loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship game.
The Georgia Bulldogs have 12.5-point odds to defeat TCU on Monday night according to FanDuel.
