ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are getting set to take on the LSU Tigers in the 2022 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. Here are our five things for Friday you need to know going into the weekend.

1. Georgia Returns to the Dome

It has been a while - 12 games actually - but UGA is back in Atlanta for another big game. This time it is the SEC Championship against Brian Kelly's LSU Tigers. The Dawgs enter this thing undefeated, No. 1 in the nation and as a huge favorite to knock off LSU.

The Tigers looked about as bad as they have all season last week in a strange loss at Texas A&M. On paper this doesn't look super competitive. The LSU-UGA games in 2011 and 2019 didn't, either. And at the end the day they weren't.

2a. What to watch for (UGA edition)

I expect Georgia to play well this weekend. That's what I expect. If that will happen or not will have at least something to do with the way the team runs the ball. LSU really struggled last week against the run. The Dawgs have been super effective running it lately. That's not an ideal formula for pulling and upset.

After two weeks in a row of non-ideal performances from the offense it is Stetson Season - and time for the Dawgs' offense to get going again. Let's see what happens with AD Mitchell. If he's back for the first time since the start of the season that could really help.

But I expect the Dawgs to run at LSU. It is the power of the team right now - I expect Kirby Smart and Todd Monken to use it.

2b. What to watch for (non-UGA edition)

It starts and ends with the Friday night game between Utah and USC. The Dawg Post crew is very eager to watch this one. A. We love late-night west coast football. B. This is going to determine who Georgia is likely to play in the CFP Semifinal. If USC gets bounce Georgia should get ready to take on Ohio State.

If the Trojans get it done in Vegas Friday night we will almost certainly see them travel cross country to visit Atlanta for the first time in a very long time. The 8 PM kick on FOX should be fun. We will also be monitoring the Big 12 title game at Noon on Saturday as well as Michigan's gimmie game against Purdue at 8 PM.

The Carolina-Clemson game should provide some background entertainment as well.

3. Quote of the week:

“Georgia deserves top be in the top spot. I think Georgia and Michigan deserve to into the last weekend - and if they lose the game they are still in. Now that we have seen these teams play it is pretty much a done deal.” - ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit on the landscape of the College Football Playoff entering championship weekend.

4. Thursday Night Rundown:

No real games to speak on on the college gridiron. I monitored The NFL game, but the Bill are so much better then New England that it didn't much matter what happened on the right-hand TV. Instead we had on Million Dollar Listing LA while I tried to get ready for all of the madness that is the SEC Championship Game.

There are a lot of different nuances to the game being in Atlanta. We were given two photography passes for the game, so that's awesome. But you need to make sure you know what you are doing and getting into before you get to the game. And adding another shooter means two more cameras to get ready - and more hard drive space to be certain exists.

So while the huge houses were on the middle TV I was going through clearing up as much space as possible for the game.

5. Lock of the week

I actually think that USC is going to win Friday night. I have been so terribly wrong this year on lock of the week picks that I hesitate to get back out there in the deep end.  But I will take teh Trojans with as much on the line as we have seen for them in a while. Give me USC (-2.5) to cover a very, very small line.
