ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are getting set for another road matchup - this time in Lexington. Here are our five things for Friday you need to know going into the weekend.

1. Georgia Stays on the Road

Georgia hasn’t played at home much lately. The colossal matchup with the Vols, a 27-13 win in Athens, is the lone game Between the Hedges sandwiched between an off week, the trips to Jacksonville, Starkville and Lexington.

Its been quite a run for the Dawgs. And the season is coming to a close quickly. Georgia is ranked No. 1 in all the polls, which is where the Dawgs should be considering the last 11 weeks of college football.

This week Georgia gets another spotlight game on CBS against a suddenly-flat Kentucky. The Cats gave up more than 200 yards on the ground to Vanderbilt last week in a horrid loss. Somewhere Ray Goff’s 1994 team is rolling over in its grave. Expect Georgia to keep it simple on the road, and run it down Kentucky’s throat.

2a. What to watch for (UGA edition)

Another win would mean the Dawgs have won 16 SEC games in two seasons - that would be quite a feat for any program. That the SEC East clearly has the top two teams in the conference is something new the SEC is going to have to get used to.

The game at Kroger Field Commonwealth Stadium was set up to be a challenge for Georgia, but as a 20-plus-point favorite late in the week - no one really thinks this game could or should be close. If the Dawgs get a quick lead this could be a landslide as Kentucky fans are grumpy with the play this season, last week’s loss to Vanderbilt and the basketball team’s fumble to Michigan State on Tuesday.

Grumpy fanbases rarely get to see what they want to see when the No. 1 team in the national comes to town.

2b. What to watch for (non-UGA edition)

This is the weekend where the entire country gets one final side-eye look at their rivals before it all goes down. Ohio State and Michigan get their foreplay on this week with the Buckeyes traveling to Maryland, and Michigan hosting Illinois.

Georgia fans should be monitoring both games as the Dawgs are probably going to play one of these two teams here soon. UCLA-USC would have been even more fun had the Bruins gone full-on Pac 12 last week in their loss. Fellas, can’t we ever have fun out west? I’m looking at you Oregon.

LSU plays a slightly challenging game against UAB while the Vols visit Shane and company in Cootlumbia (Now you have a friend in the sunglass business - on Windy Hill road...) . I’m certain that’s going to be great fun for all involved. Just north of there, Clemson takes on Miami, and the Taters are trying to close their season with a win before loading up the tractors for the season ender at Southern Cootlumbia.

“Everything is OK with our quarterback. Everything is OK with our quarterback. Everything is OK with our quarterback,” Dabs whispers to himself at night.

Meanwhile Nick Saban’s Tide waits to hammer both Austin Peay and Auburn over the next two weeks. Going to be interesting to see what happens with Bama guys heading to the NFL during the bowl game. I’m sure the Orange Bowl would love to get Clemson-Alabama… I’m sure Clemson wouldn’t.

I want to point out that McDonald's claims that this run is the final run of the McRib. A) I don't believe you. B) I have never had one.

3. Quote of the week:

“It just gives us another opportunity to go out there, showcase our talents and dominate the opponent.” - UGA RB Kenny McIntosh talks about playing on the road. Georgia has not lost a road game since 2020.

4. Thursday Night Rundown:

Did you see where the NFL moved the Bills’ game from Buffalo to Detriot because the league was worried about three to six feet of snow? Really? Angela Lansbury did not die for this! Play outside in the snow like a man. I’m sitting here watching the Titans play in 24-degree weather at Green Bay.

🥶

You realize Georgia is very possibly playing the coldest game it has ever played on Saturday. Why can’t we have nice things?

5. Lock of the week

We are finally back to even friends. Lesson learned - never pick South Carolina as your lock of the week. This week we try to keep it rolling. The Noles picked us up last week, so we stay in the ACC for some ACCtion. I will take the Tar Heels (-21) over the Jackets. Come get your whipping Tech. Come and get it.
