ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs came into today as the No. 3 team in college football.

As it turns out, they’ve actually the top team in college football and have been the entire season. Tennessee came into Athens with the No. 1 ranking and the top offense in college football. That top-ranked offense couldn’t do much at all against Georgia’s elite defense, scoring just 6 points in the ballgame.

We said Georgia needed to get off to a fast start, and that’s exactly what happened. After losing a fumble on their opening drive and giving up a long field goal to get the scoring started, the Bulldogs dominated the Volunteers from then on.

Stetson Bennett played outstanding and played one of the best games of his Bulldog career. Bennett was 15/21 in the first half for 226 yards and three touchdowns. Two came through the air and one came on the ground. He ended the game 17/24 for 257 yards and two passing touchdowns along with an impressive 13-yard touchdown run.

This was a sound beating in Athens. It was clear from the beginning that Georgia was the better team. This wasn’t some close victory that they found a way to win in the end.

They BEAT TENNESSEE’S ASS. The scoreboard may not say the same thing, but this was 100% an ass beating.

This has to be one of the best performances I’ve been from any Georgia Bulldog defense over the last several years. They stopped an “unstoppable” offense and did it with ease. It was a group effort and we saw every position group on that side of the ball do their job the entire game.

They covered well in the secondary. They tackled well. They forced turnovers. Maybe most importantly, they pressured Hendon Hooker and made him uncomfortable all night long.

Also, let’s give some credit to the Sanford Stadium crowd. They caused consistent false start penalties all game long and essentially took Tennessee’s offense out of the game. The noise in Sanford Stadium was CLEARLY too much for Hendon Hooker and the Volunteer offense.

This is a game where Georgia needed to play their best and we saw that today. The played tough, physical, disciplined football in all three phases of the game. Stetson Bennett made big throws down the field. The running backs sliced through the Tennessee defense whenever they needed too. Ladd McConkey, who did not earn an offer from his childhood favorite Tennessee Volunteers, had maybe his best game as a Bulldog. He ended the game with five receptions for 94 yards and one touchdown.

Everything clicked for Georgia. They didn’t get the calls the way Tennessee did, but it didn’t matter. They played like the No. 1 team in the country and proved it today in the biggest college football game of the entire regular season.

The Bulldogs didn’t the ball as well as we’ve seen them run it for most of the season, but they were still effective and made things easier for Bennett and the passing game.

The Georgia Bulldogs put the college football world in notice today. IF they continue to play the way they did against Tennessee today, they have a real chance of winning another national championship this season.
