ATHENS - As you know by now, major prospects from across the country made their way to Athens over the weekend to watch the best team in college football, the Georgia Bulldogs, take down the “top-ranked” Tennessee Volunteers in Sanford Stadium.

There were multiple players from California who flew in for the big game, with one of them being 5-star defensive back, Peyton Woodyard‍.

An athletic junior with size, length, and impressive ball skills, Woodyard plays for a power program in California at St. John Bosco. The 6-foot-2 190-pounder is a sure tackler, can read the quarterback, and consistently flashes against top competition.

Woodyard is one of the top defenders across the country and told Dawg Post that he had a great time in Athens over the weekend.

“I was extremely impressed with Georgia’s ability to match the tempo of Tennessee’s offense and keep the receivers in front of them to make plays”, Woodyard said. “I was also impressed with the speed and physicality of Georgia’s defense.”

Woodyard is a guy who does his research. He knows a lot about the Georgia football program and the man running it.

“Coach Kirby Smart has played the game and has surrounded himself with coaches that understand how to relate and teach his brand of football, which is being smart, physical and relentless. Coach Smart played my position in college and the defensive backs and the defense as a whole played a great game!”

Of course, the Sanford Stadium crowd also made an impact on the elite defender. Even in the rain, Woodyard saw the passion and excitement that Georgia fans brought to Sanford Stadium.

“It definitely got louder when it started raining! That fan base pumps you up! The crowd noise was crazy loud! I can definitely see myself playing Between the Hedges!”

He may live on the West Coast, but it’s clear the Georgia football program and the staff have really impressed the big-time defender. He has offers from major programs across the country, but this weekend’s visit may have put Georgia towards the top of his list.

According to the 247 Composite Rankings, Woodyard is ranked as the No. 2 safety prospect, the No. 3 prospect in California, and the No. 28 overall prospect in the country.
