ATHENS - Kirby Smart and Glenn Schumann DO IT AGAIN.
They have three of the nation’s top linebackers committed in the 2023 class and now have one of the nation’s best in the 2024 class in board in four-star Demarcus Riddick, who chose the Bulldogs today over Tennessee, Oklahoma, among others.
What are the Bulldogs getting in Riddick?
Athleticism and instincts.
As a linebacker, Riddick brings plenty of length and natural instincts to the position. At 6-foot-2 215-pounds, he reacts quickly and knows how to chase down the ball carrier. He understands his job, can get sideline to sideline, and knows how to get after the quarterback. He’s disciplines, closes well, and knows how to deliver a big hit when he meets the back or quarterback. He gets off blocks consistently, he strikes, and he’s someone who doesn’t miss many tackles.
Not only can he help stop the run, but he’s excellent in coverage as well. He shows good footwork, can read the quarterback, and then make a play on the ball.
It’s easy to see why Glenn Schumann, who can hand pick his linebackers, was all-in on the Clanton, Alabama native.
He won’t be returning punts at Georgia, but it’s something he does very well at the high school level. He runs like a deer at 215-pounds and knows how to power through would-be tackles for a big gain.
He may not play for a successful program right now at Chilton County (AL), but he’s been productive and easy to notice all year long.
As a defender this season as a junior, Riddick has made 109 total tackles to this point with 19 TFLs and seven sacks. He’s also intercepted three passes in coverage and blocked one kick. He’s a do-it-all type of player and one of the top defenders across the country for the 2024 class.
According to the 247 Composite Rankings, Riddick is ranked as the No. 2 linebacker prospect, the No. 2 prospect in Alabama, and the No. 43 overall prospect in the country for the 2024 class.
Riddick also becomes Georgia’s 6th commitment already in the 2024 class and the first defender to jump on the commit list.
This is a BIG deal and the Bulldogs continue to reel in elite linebackers for the future.
