ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are a perfect 7-0 and ranked as the No. 1 team in the country. If you’re a Georgia fan, life is good.

Things are going great on the recruiting trail as well as the Bulldogs have added multiple commitments this fall.

One commitment came from four-star running back Roderick Robinson‍‍, one of the top-ranked backs on the West Coast who is running through defenses left and right this year.

The 6-foot-1 230-pound bowling ball of a back was in Athens for an official visit the weekend of October 8th to watch the Bulldogs take down Auburn, and two days later, Robinson flipped from UCLA to Georgia.

What made the Robinson family fall in love with Georgia? Dawg Post caught up with Roderick’s father, Roderick Robinson Sr, for the latest on why Georgia won them over.

“We loved almost everything about UGA”, Robinson told Dawg Post. “The football program is one of the best in the country and has been for quite some time. So, we knew that Rod would be challenged every single day and would face some of the best if not the best competition in practice and in the SEC. That was something Rod really wanted when he decided to open back up his recruitment. His dream is to play in the NFL and we all felt that UGA could prepare him for that and help him get closer to making that dream come true. I feel like it was the second day of the visit that really won us over though. Getting to meet one on one with everybody there that is involved with the student athletes on a day to day basis was great. His mom and I could tell right away that academics were a priority for Coach Smart and his staff and that was important for us to see. Coach Smart and Coach McGee are both great guys on and off the field.”

Of course, there’s a reason why coach McGee is regarded as one of the best running back coaches in America. It hasn’t been easy for McGee this year on the trail, but he was able to win over the Robinson’s and land a commitment from one of the toughest backs in America.

“Coach McGee has coached some of the best running backs to come out of UGA and he’s so humble about that. My son is a really humble kid and he just felt comfortable with Coach McGee. That was good for his mom and I to see as well. It was just a great visit with a great program in a great city around great fans and it was something we all could see ourselves apart of for the next 4 years.”

As a senior at Lincoln High School in California, Robinson has dominated in every game so far this season, rushing for 1,704 yards on 131 carries (13 ypc) through nine games while adding 25 touchdowns. He’s also averaging just under 190 rushing yards per game this fall.

Robinson is ranked in the 247 Composite as the No. 13 RB prospect, the No.16 prospect in California and the No. 240 overall prospect in the country for the 2023 class.
