ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said Wednesday that he was very proud of the work TE Arik Gilbert had been doing with the program.
Kirby acknowledged that Gilbert went with the Bulldogs for the game at Missouri. The Marietta native did not dress for the No. 1 Bulldogs’ 26-22 win over the Tigers.
“I am really proud of Arik’s progress, and what he’s done,” Kirby said. “(I) continue to be hopeful that will contribute and help us.”
Gilbert transferred from LSU to Georgia heading into the 2021 season. He did not play last fall, but participated in spring drills. Gilbert played in the first two games of the season, but has not played since.

“(Gilbert) has been practicing with us, and he’ll be day to day, and hopefully help us this year,” Kirby said a week ago.
On Monday he told reporters that Gilbert has a strong relationship with his teammates.
“We’re trying to develop him and bring him along,” Kirby said. “It is important that he is with us in terms of meetings, walk-throughs, being there with us, being with the team - being a part of the connection. He’s got a great rapport with the players, and that’s why he was there.”
Gilbert missed UGA’s trip to South Carolina for what Kirby described as “personal reasons.”
