ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have released the game trailer for the second SEC game of the year at Missouri.

This week’s hype video is narratted by Georgia Bullldog legend Jarvis Jones. The former sack-master spent lots of time dominating Missouri during his time in Athens.

“Physicality. The quality of being full of energy and force. You can ask anyone. Physicality is Georgia football. I might know something about that. Chipping away one play at a time until they reach their breaking point. Making an impact so deep it would be hard to forget. It’s our drive and physicality that sets us apart. We don’t just make these make these marks. We earn them. Competing to the standard. OUR standard. Hard-nosed. Relentless. A physical team that knows when push comes to shove, w’ere the ones that leave the mark.”

BULLDOGS BEGIN SEC STRETCH

Top-ranked Georgia (4-0, 1-0 SEC) begins a stretch of seven consecutive SEC games this Saturday when it faces Missouri (2-2, 0-1 SEC) in Columbia. The Tigers dropped a heartbreaker at Auburn 17-14 in overtime last Saturday.

2021 FLASHBACK: NO. 1 GEORGIATOPS MISSOURI 43-6

After falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, top-ranked Georgia responded with 40 unanswered points and ultimately posted a 43-6 win. Stetson Bennett (13-for-19, 255 yards, 2 TDs) started at quarterback and helped the Bulldogs build a 33-3 lead before JT Daniels returned under center for the first time in two weeks. He threw a touch- down pass to Ladd McConkey. Nine different Bulldogs caught passes with four covering more than 20 yards. The stout Bulldog defense limited the Tigers to a pair of field goals on the day and had a goal line stand that ended with three seconds left in the game as Missouri turned it over on downs. The Tigers came in averaging 34.8 points a game. Missouri’s Tyler Badie, the SEC’s leading rusher, was held to 41 yards, while starting quarterback Connor Bazelak did not see action due to an injury. Also, Georgia linebacker Nolan Smith’s blocked punt resulted in a safety.

PASSING ATTACK

The Bulldogs are second in the league in Total Offense (531.5 yards/game) and Yards Per Play (7.6). Thanks in part to the performance of senior QB Stetson Bennett so far, the Bulldogs are third the league in Passing Offense (350.5 yards/game). Bennett has five touchdowns and one interception plus four rushing touchdowns this year. He is completing 74 percent of his passes and has 1,224 yards going into the Missouri contest.

BULLDOGS NO. 1 IN AP AND COACHES POLLS

Georgia transitioned from No. 3 in the preseason poll to No. 2 after week one and then to No. 1 in the AP poll prior to the South Carolina game. After whipping the Gamecocks 48-7, the Bulldogs assumed the top spot in the Coaches poll as well. Georgia has been ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in 18 of the past 20 Associated Press (AP) polls, with the other two weeks at No. 3.

SETTING THE STANDARD

Despite a record 15 players getting selected in the NFL draft, including five defenders in the first round, Georgia’s defense, at least through the first four games, looks to be as strong as ever. The Bulldogs rank fourth nationally in Scoring Defense at 8.0 points/game. The Bulldogs whipped No. 11 Oregon 49-3 in the season opener in Atlanta, blanked Samford 33-0 in Athens, routed South Carolina 48-7 in Columbia, S.C., and bested Kent State 39-22 in Sanford Stadium most recently.
Senior OLB Nolan Smith, redshirt sophomore DB Kelee Ringo and senior S Chris Smith are the Dogs’ three returning defensive starters from last season’s team. For the third time in school history, Georgia led the nation in Scoring Defense. The 2021 unit allowed just 10.2 points/game and only 153 total points in 15 games.
