It’s safe to say the Jacksonville Jaguars made the right decision taking former Georgia Bulldog defensive lineman Travon Walker with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s 2022 NFL Draft.

The former 5-star prospect out of Upson-Lee High School had an outstanding career with the Bulldogs from 2019-2021 and left Athens as a national champion. He was also a member of one of the top college football defenses of all-time last fall.

The Thomaston native turned heads in his NFL debut today with the Jacksonville Jaguars, making four total tackles, one sack, one INT, a forced fumble, and a pass deflection. Former Georgia Bulldog defensive back and fellow 5-star Tyson Campbell also recorded an INT today against Carson Wentz and the Washington Commanders.

Walker was named Freshman All-SEC Team in 2019 after performing like a 5-star throughout his freshman season. One of his biggest moments was a game=clinching sack against Bo Nix and Auburn to secure a 21-14 win on the road.

Walker was reliable in 2020 as a sophomore, but his junior season in 2021 really opened eyes across college football and through the NFL. At 6-foot-5 275-pounds, Walker showed athleticism, versatility, and a skill-set in Athens that translates well to the NFL.

Walker dominated the NFL combine this spring, running an electric 4.51 at 272 pounds. A former basketball star, Walker has always had a lean figure with tremendous length and athleticism. He also opened eyes with his 35.5” vertical jump.

He dominated at Georgia, and now the 2019 signee is showing why he was the first-overall pick this spring. His impact is clearly being made in game one for the Jaguars.
