ATHENS - Kirby Smart‘s Georgia Bulldogs are extremely heavy favorites to win this weekend over the Samford Bulldogs

Kirby Smart’s program opened as a 52-point favorite to beat Samford. It is the third-highest spread in school history (Nicholls, +53.5; Charleston Southern, 52.5). Lines are only an indication of what betters think will happen in a game.

Nicholls nearly toppled Georgia in Kirby’s second game as head coach in 2016. The Dawgs held on for a 26-24 win that was Jacob Eason’s first career start.

"We had a lot of guys today who didn't play the way they are capable, and I've got to figure out why that is," Smart said after that game.

In the past it has been abnormal for lines to be generated on games like this one, but in recent years lines makers have generated enough attention to put lines.

Still, Georgia has only been favored by more than 45 points five times since 2010. Only the Nicholls game was competitive in 2016. After week one of college football, it appears the Bulldogs could be considered double-digit favorites for the rest of the regular season games of 2022.

Georgia is 42-0 since 2010 in games where the Bulldogs are favored by at least 22 points.
