ATHENS - Kirby Smart‘s Georgia Bulldogs announced the program’s players of the week after the No. 3 Dawgs’ lopsided 49-3 win over No. 11 Oregon in Atlanta.
On offense Georgia QB Stetson Bennett was announced as the player of the week for that side of the ball. Bennett was also named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week. He was 25 for 31 (81%t) for a career-high 368 yards passing and two touchdowns. Bennett added a touchdown on the ground during the game as well.
“(It was) probably the best (game) I've played,” Bennett said of the win over Oregon to start the 2022 season.

Georgia DB Christopher Smith and Georgia DB Malaki Starks were both named players of the week for the Dawgs. Both recorded interceptions during the game. Kirby told reporters after the win that Starks had an impressive August.
“He's been probably our most productive defensive back all camp, which means he get lots of hands on balls,” Kirby said. “Batted balls; he knocked down balls; he had picks. He's a good football player.”
Smith was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second season in a row he’s earned that honor. A year ago Smith scored the game’s only touchdown during No. 5 Georgia’s 10-3 win over No. 3 Clemson.
Georgia DB Dan Jackson and Georgia PK Jack Podlesny were named special teams players of the week for the program. Jackson made the first big play of the game when he tackled Oregon’s Seven McGee at the nine-yard line on the game’s opening kickoff.
Meanwhile, Podlesny had six touchbacks on eight kickoffs. He converted all seven point-after attempts.
