Georgia Bulldogs vs. Oregon Ducks - Sea Lion from Georgia Aquarium Picks Winner

ATHENS - The pick is in from Diego the Sea Lion on who will win the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 11 Oregon Ducks. 

After much deliberation, Diego picked the Bulldogs to top the Ducks. Diego is one of a slew of animals from the Georgia Aquarium to select a winner in the season opener in Atlanta. Seals, zebra sharks and black botched rays have joined the parade of pickers since 2018. 

Georgia is considered a heavy favorite to win the game having been installed as a 17.5-point favorite by Fan Duel to win the game over the Ducks. Meanwhile, the animals are 3-1 all time - having picked SEC schools the entire time. The only loss was when Louisville was picked over Ole Miss in 2021.

Diego, who was rescued from the beaches of California in 2016, is the aquarium’s largest rescued male sea lion, weighing in at over 550 pounds. 

Kirby’s Bulldogs return a slew of offensive players in 2021, but will have to replace the bulk of the Dawgs’ offense from the national title run. The game against the Ducks will feature former UGA defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, who accepted the head coach job at Oregon just before the Dawgs won the national title. 

Meanwhile, Kirby is entering his seventh season at UGA. His program has won the Rose, Sugar, Peach and Orange Bowls along with the 2017 SEC Championship and the 2021 CFP national title. He was a four-year letterman at Georgia before starting his coaching career.
