ATHENS - Former Georgia Bulldogs QB Aaron Murray has heard enough of the complaining about Stetson Bennett.

“Enough with the bitching and moaning for Stetson,” Murray said earlier this week . “Even if he comes out there and is just good through the first one or two games - just be patient… enjoy yourself.”

Georgia fans have tried their best to enjoy the last nearly nine months of football - celebrating the program’s first national title since 1980. Murray and the Bulldogs narrowly missed out on a national title in 2012.

“Give the man some slack for goodness sakes,” Murray continued. “He is a tremendous leader both on and off the field. I’m super excited about his season. It would not surprise me if Stetson was the guy at the end of the season is throwing anywhere from 30 to 35 touchdowns, along with five interceptions and maybe five rushing touchdowns as well.”

Murray’s comments came on Greg McElroy’s podcast “Always College Football”.

Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said in July the reason Bennett was picked as the starter in 2021 over J.T. Daniels was simple.

“(Bennett) gives us the best chance to win the next game, and as long as he was the best one to win the next game, he was going to be the one out there,” Kirby said.

This isn’t the first time Murray has expressed support for the 6th-year signal caller. This time, however, Bennett has a national title in his back pocket, and he’s gunning for another one in 2022.

Last season Bennett ended the year with 2,862 yards, 29 touchdowns, seven interceptions passing and 259 yards rushing. He is 14-3 as a starting quarterback at Georgia. The Bulldogs are set to open the season in Atlanta against Oregon on September 3rd. The Ducks are now led by former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning.
