ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs QB Stetson Bennett was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List Wednesday.

Bennett was one of 76 players named to the list. Bennett was named the Orange Bowl Most Valuable Player after the No. 3 Dawgs’ win over No. 2 Michigan in that game. He led the Bulldogs to their first national title in 41 years after Georgia defeated No. 1 Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Bennett announced that he was returning for his sixth and final season of college football in late January. Bennett ended 2021 with 2,862 yards, 29 touchdowns, seven interceptions passing and 259 yards rushing. He is 14-3 as a starting quarterback at Georgia.

With Bennett back for another season, FanDuel gives the Bulldogs -160 odds to make the College Football Playoffs this season.

The Bulldogs are set to open the season in Atlanta against Oregon on September 3rd. The Ducks are now led by former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning.

The preseason Watch List, semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers and former players. The award annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class. Candidates are chosen based on player performance on-and-off the field as we head into the 2022 college football season.

The namesake of the Golden Arm Award has a storied history. Johnny Unitas was an 18-year veteran of the NFL, who played his collegiate career at the University of Louisville before joining the Baltimore Colts in 1958. His career passing figures include 2,830 pass completions for 40,239 yards, 290 touchdowns and throwing a touchdown pass in 47 consecutive games.

The 2022 award winner will be presented the Golden Arm Award trophy by The Johnny Unitas Educational Foundation President, John Unitas, Jr., at the Golden Arm Award banquet and celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
