ATHENS - Every year Kirby Smart has a freshman receiver who finds a way to have a big impact in his first season with the Georgia Bulldogs.
In 2019 it was George Pickens. In 2020 it was Jermaine Burton. Of course last year, it was A.D Mitchell who came in strong as a freshman.
Who could it be this year?
Sources believe the answer is former three-star, Dillon Bell.
A sure-handed receiver and impressive route runner for his age, Bell is a dynamic wideout out of Kinkaid School (TX) who is turning heads in Athens. Sources say he had an excellent scrimmage over the weekend and has impressed throughout the summer as well.
Former Georgia Bulldog receiver Terrence Edwards, the current receivers coach at Milton High School, has high hopes for Georgia’s freshman.
“I predicted that AD Mitchell would be a star last season and he did. Well, Kirby has found another one in Dillon Bell. He’s built like a RB (6-foot-1 214-pounds) with natural hands. I can’t wait to see how Bryan McClendon develops this kid.”

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart also had some strong words for the impressive freshman receiver.
“He will work his way into rotation by necessity”, Smart said about Bell. “Right now at wide out, we don’t have great depth and we have a couple injuries. Those young guys are getting thrust out there, and they have to go up. We have done it before. We’ve had productive young wide receivers.”
With Arian Smith down for the beginning of the season, and incoming freshman De’Nylon Morrissette battling injuries this summer, Bell has an excellent chance to earn some playing time this year if he continues to develop. He’s a tough runner after the catch, shows reliable, consistent hands, and sources say he’s shown big-play ability behind the scenes.
Everyone loves to talk about incoming freshmen and which could see the field early on. If sources are correct, at least on offense, Dillon Bell could be the answer.
