ATHENS - After an excellent month of July on the recruiting trail for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, sources tell Dawg Post that more good news could be on the way in August.
Here’s what we are hearing on the recruiting front heading into the fall...
4-star WR Anthony Evans told Dawg Post recently that he is coming close to a decision, and after speaking with sources connected to Texas A&M, Dawg Post feels Evans’ recruitment will come down to Oklahoma and Georgia.
August 26th is the day Dawg Post was told when asked about a commitment timeline, and with his track-star speed, Evans should be welcomed with open arms by Bryan McClendon and the Georgia staff. There’s still time left before a commitment, and sources say Evans is still weighing his options, but at this moment, Dawg Post is giving the Bulldogs the edge over the Sooners for one of the fastest prospects in the country.
Another wide receiver target could be close to committing as well, and that’s four-star Tyler Williams. The Lakeland (FL) standout was in Athens for a visit for the final weekend in July, and he’s gone silent about his recruitment ever since. He’s recently tweeted that he’s coming close to a decision, and while he originally planned to announce in late September, we’ve always reported that a decision much sooner would not be surprising. Look for Williams to go ahead and pull the trigger at some point this month. We’ve liked Georgia’s chances for at least two months now and still feel the Bulldogs are the team to beat.
A defensive back to keep a close eye on soon is three-star cornerback, Rickey Gibson. The Hewitt-Trussville (AL) might have a three-star ranking right now, but his speed and length should see him rise in the 2023 rankings this fall. He’s really impressed the Georgia staff and sources say he shot up their board this summer. The talented defensive back is down to Georgia, Tennessee and Penn State with a commitment coming on August 14th. Right now, Dawg Post expects Georgia to be the pick.
