ATHENS - In case you forgot, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs dominated the 2022 NFL Draft in late April with a record-breaking 15 Bulldogs being selected in the Draft.
The reigning college football national champions had one of the best defenses in college football history last season, and we saw multiple defenders, five to be exact, hear their names selected in the 1st round.
One of those defenders was safety Lewis Cine , a former four-star defensive back out of Texas that the Bulldogs signed in the 2019 class.
A hard-hitting defender who was excellent in run support throughout his Bulldog career, Cine was an AP All-SEC 1st Team selection last year after helping lead Georgia to the national championship. He also helped anchor a secondary that was part of one of the best defenses in college football history. He was also named Defensive MVP of the CFP Championship Game, making 7 tackles, 1 TFL and 1 PBU in Georgia’s big 33-18 win over Alabama for the title. with seven tackles (one TFL) and one PBU
As a junior last fall, Cine lead the Bulldogs in tackles with 73 total stops. After a fantastic three-year career in Athens, Cine left school early to enter the 2022 NFL Draft and was takin in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings with the 32nd overall pick.
Of course, with a first-round selection comes first-round money, and Cine saw a big payday come his way, signing a 4-year deal worth $11.5 million.
If you want to be a successful defensive back in the NFL, you need to have toughness, closing speed, range, and the ability to deliver a sure tackle. Cine can do all those things and more, and that’s why he was one of five Bulldog defenders taken in the 1st-round.
Now that the Vikings have improved their defense, they have +300 odds to win the NFC North according to FanDuel.
