ATHENS - If Glenn Schumann isn’t the best linebackers coach in college football, I don’t know who is.

Schumann, Georgia’s co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach, is not only one of the best developers in college football, but he’s proven time after time that he’s one of the best recruiters as well.

With the help of head coach Kirby Smart, Schumann landed a commitment today from one of the top 2023 linebackers in the country in four-star Raylen Wilson‍.

The high four-star prospect out of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida committed to Michigan over Georgia back in December, but after an official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 3rd, Wilson knew he needed to think things over, and after decommitting from Michigan on June 28th, Wilson jumped on board and committed to the Bulldogs.

Why did Wilson choose Georgia?

“UGA is special because of the standard everyone is held too”, Wilson told Dawg Post. “I really love that.”

“Coach Schumann always keeps it real and he’s a really genuine person”, Wilson added. “They sold the 40+ year plan after football & the development of players that come through UGA.”

So is Georgia getting in Wilson?

They’re getting a heat-seeking missle and a tackling machine.

He’s a tremendous athlete at 6-foot-2 215-pounds, and like four-star commit CJ Allen, Wilson knows how to run. He’s quick, gets through blocks, and knows how to deliver a hit. He’s so disruptive in the run game and there aren’t many backs who can get to the edge when Wilson is running them down.

He takes on blocks, gets off them quickly, and then attacks the ball carrier. He also knows how to blitz and get after the quarterback, making 5 sacks as a junior last year. The Bulldogs love sending linebackers after the quarterback, and that’s something Wilson excels at.

He’s a true middle linebacker who can run sideline to sideline and knows how to sneak his way inot the backfield as well. He’s a fluid runner and one of the better linebackers in coverage in all of Florida.

He’s been a major Bulldog target throughout his recruitment and it’s easy to see why. He’s a young prospect for his class but he sure doesn’t play like it. He does just about everything well and should thrive in Glenn Schumann’s scheme in Athens.

As a junior last fall, Wilson made 139 tackles, 16 TFLs, 5 sacks, and forced 2 fumbles.

According to the 247 Composite Rankings, Wilson is ranked as the No. 5 LB prospect, the No. 16 prospect in Florida, and the No. 73 overall prospect in the country.
