Suwanee - After signing his top tight end target in the 2022 class in four-star Oscar Delp, Georgia Bulldogs assistant Todd Hartley has proved to be one of the best recruiters in college football, and already has two of the nation’s best in the 2023 class on the commit list in four-stars Pearce Spurlin and Lawson Luckie.
The Georgia Bulldogs are becoming “Tight End University” once again, and current superstar tigt end Brock Bowers has +15000 odds to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy according to FanDuel.
Now, Hartley has his eyes on another elite tight end in the 2024 class.
That would be 5-star Landen Thomas.
A dynamic pass-catching tight end out of Colquitt County, the 6-foot-3 235-pounder led the Packers to the 7-on-7 tournament championship in Athens on Friday in front of Kirby Smart, Todd Hartley, and the rest of the Georgia staff.
The very next day, Thomas helped lead the Packers to the Collins Hill 7-on-7 championship and caught up with Dawg Post to talk about his interest in Georgia.
“I was talking with coach Todd Hartley throughout the tournament in Athens,” Thomas said. “He was just telling me tips on my routes and things like that.”
“I definitely feel like a priority for coach Hartley and Georgia”, Thomas added. “He does a good job of staying in contact and showing love. He shows that he really wants you. If I could describe coach Hartley in three words it would be energetic, funny and caring.”
It’s not just Hartley that made Thomas interested in Georgia. The energy, winning tradition, and his visit to a game last fall put the Bulldogs in an excellent position early on in his recruitment.
“I like being up at Georgia”, Thomas said. “I’ve been up there about four times already this year. It just feels like home. I went to the game last year when they played Arkansas. I just remember the energy in the stadium. That was my first college game attending and it was so packed. That’s when they first offered me, too.”
Thomas grew up a Miami Hurricanes fan, but Thomas knows they don’t use the tight ends the way Georgia does.
“Georgia told me they sometimes use three tight ends so of course I like that a lot.”
It’s still early on, but Thomas added that three schools are standing out among the rest right now.
“Georgia, Michigan and Florida”, Thomas said. “That would be my top three if I had to make one right now.”
Thomas is ranked by Dawg Post as the No. 6 prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class. The 247 Composite Rankings have Thomas listed as the No. 1 TE prospect in the country and the No. 24 overall prospect in the 2024 class.
