GEORGIA BULLDOGS CLASS OF 2023

Kirby and company have used scholarships on specialists - Jake Camarda was one of the first ones to join Kirby’s program on scholarship. The former Norcross punter was drafted No. 133 overall by Tampa Bay during the 2022 NFL Draft.

In the most recent recruiting cycle, Kirby used a scholarship on punter Brett Thorson. He is expected to compete for the starting punting job this fall.

Georgia and Alabama have faced one other a slew of times since 2017 in high-profile games. In several instances kickers have played a major part in the game - including misses from Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos as time expired in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, and Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship’s critical miss against Alabama in the 2018 SEC Championship Game.

Blankenship’s miss on a 30-yard field goal came halfway in the third quarter and would have put the Bulldogs up 31-14. Alabama scored 21 unanswered points to storm to the victory.

In last year’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game kickers from both teams rose to the occasion. Alabama's Will Reichard and Georgia's Jack Podlesny combined to go 6 for 7 in attempts. Reichard's blocked kicked in the third quarter ignited a Georgia comeback and the first touchdown of the game. But no kick was bigger in the contest than Podlesny's 49 yarder with 3:09 in the second quarter.
