One of the most sought-after prospects in recent memory, 5-star quarterback Arch Manning‍, decided not to commit to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. He’s headed to Texas instead.

Texas beat out both Georgia and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The New Orleans native has become a phenomenon in the world of recruiting. He heads to a Texas program that’s trying to steady itself before heading to the SEC in the near future.

Insiders felt that Manning was leaning to the Horns of late.

In 2023, the Bulldogs will have three quarterbacks they have signed since 2020. Now, Kirby and company will focus elsewhere.

“With most quarterbacks already committed, the Bulldogs can try to flip Ole Miss commit Marcel Reed‍ who held a Bulldog offer early on in his recruitment,” Dawg Post’s Matt DeBary said. “The top quarterback prospect in Georgia, Brookwood (GA) gunslinger Dylan Lonergan, is also an option, but UGA will  have to pass a few others schools before he makes a decision.”

DeBary added that Georgia will shoot high once more in the 2024 class.

“No matter who they sign in the 2023 class, look for the Bulldogs to go after one of the very best in the 2024 class. Kirby Smart and his staff have built a strong relationship for some of the country’s best already including 5-star Julian Sayin‍ (Carlsbad, CA), 5-star DJ Lagway (Willis, TX) and 5-star Jadyn Davis‍ (Providence Day School, NC). The top QB prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class, Calvary Day School standout Jake Merklinger, is also a name to keep a close eye on.”
