ATHENS - Kirby Smart and Fran Brown strike gold once again.
The Bulldogs already have two of the best cornerback prospects in the country on the commit list in 5-star AJ Harris and 4-star Daniel Harris, and they’ve added another impressive defensive back today in four-star Chris Peal, giving them five defensive back commitments in the 2023 class.
One of the top overall defenders in North Carolina, Peal is an instinctive cornerback with excellent ball skills. The Bulldogs offered this spring on March 29th and sources say Georgia immediately became the team to beat in his recruitment. After taking his official visit to Athens the weekend on June 3rd, it’s clear the Georgia staff had a comfortable lead for Peal, who really climbed up Georgia’s DB board over the last 10 months. Peal committed to Georgia over Auburn, Florida State, Boston College, among others.

As a prospect, there’s a lot to like about Peal’s game and what he’ll bring to Athens. He’s a natural at the position, and when the ball is in the air, he’s going to make a play on it. He also showed toughness and was a sure-tackler last season. He can be physical when he needs to be and can be tough for most receivers to create separation from. He’s also one of the top athletes in the Charlotte area and did a little bit of everything for his Providence Day School (NC) squad.
Defensively, Peal made 56 tackles, 2 INTs, and broke up 17 more passes as a junior in 2021. Offensively, Peal rushed 111 times for 682 yards and 9 touchdowns. He’s quick, explosive, has D1 size, and thought of highly by Fran Brown and the Georgia staff.
As a senior this year, Peal had rushed for 508 yards and 7 touchdowns while catching 22 passes for 301 yards and three more touchdowns. Defensively, Peal has made 27 tackles with 10 pass breakups.
Peal is ranked as the No. 29 CB prospect in the country and the No. 10 prospect in North Carolina according to the 247 Composite Rankings.
