ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a GIANT recruiting weekend where they hosted some of their top 2023 targets on official visits.
One top target in town is currently committed elsewhere, and that’s 4-star LB Raylen Wilson. The elite linebacker from Tallahassee chose Michigan over Georgia back in December, but sources say the Bulldogs are giving Wilson a lot to think about after his UGA official visit this past weekend.
The 6-foot-1 215-pounder out of Lincoln (FL) was given the red-carpet treatment in Athens and spent a lot of time with another major linebacker target in four-star CJ Allen, Dawg Post’s top-ranked linebacker prospect in Georgia.
So, what makes UGA special to Georgia?
“UGA is special because of the standard everyone is held too”, Wilson said. “I really love that.”
Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, one of the top assistant coaches in college football, is the lead recruiter for Wilson, and his resume speaks for itself. He develops his players as well as anyone in the country and he’ll do everything he can to flip Wilson from Michigan.
“Coach Schumann always keeps it real”, Wilson said. “He’s a really genuine person him. The whole staff is, really. I also love their dominant mindset defensively and the energy they bring.”
Wilson has an official visit planned to Florida this upcoming weekend, but sources continue to say that Georgia is the biggest threat to Michigan, and Dawg Post feels the Bulldogs have a real chance of flipping him down the road. The 4-star will take his official visit to Michigan the weekend of June 17th, and then it will be time to make a final decision.
Does Wilson stick with Michigan? Or does he flip to Georgia?
Time will tell, but from what sources have told Dawg Post in the last 24 hours, it’s safe to say that Georgia has a real shot at landing Wilson, who is ranked as the No. 5 LB prospect and the No. 70 overall prospect in the country according to the 247 Composite Rankings.
