Georgia Bulldog defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt has been selected selected No. 28 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.
Wyatt was truly an under the radar guy for the Georgia Bulldogs the last few seasons, and he was often outshined by guys like Jordan Davis and Travon Walker.
Wyatt is NFL ready and will make a great contribution to a professional roster.
He finished with 39 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in the 2021 season. Those are better numbers than what Jordan Davis put up. Not everybody can be the fan favorite but everybody can fight to be a contributor, and that is what Wyatt did.
The 24-year old ran a 4.77 40-yard draft at the NFL combine and stands at 6’3” and 305 pounds. He is quick and craft at getting into the backfield.
Again, he was under the radar, and it is quite ridiculous that he was. On a team where stars like Nakobe Dean shined, Wyatt got the least amount of public love on that historic college football defense.
That matters no more. He was just drafted to be a professional football player.
Wyatt has consistently been mocked to go in the first round over the last few months. He has been a consensus top-40 player in this year’s pre draft analysis.
The national champion was at one point in the process, NFL Draft expert Mel Kipers’ best interior defensive lineman in this year’s draft.
He will have a chance in the league to prove all of the doubters wrong.
