Georgia Bulldog defensive lineman Jordan Davis has been selected No. 13 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Davis sprung onto the scene against Florida a couple of years ago and became a fan favorite in Athens.
It is safe to say that Davis is a Georgia legend. How many players are an honorary member of Georgia’s marching band, and how many defensive lineman have scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs?
The 6’6” and 340 pound monster is an elite run stopper and can chase after quarterbacks. He ran a 4.78 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. Read that again.
Davis is not a human being that comes around so often.
The knock on him has been his conditioning. Can he play three downs? It was rare that he did that at Georgia, but he did not have to.
NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper had this to say about Davis:
“He’s a run-stuffer. A guy you cannot move. An immovable defensive tackle against the run, like an A’Shawn Robinson.”
He will have to condition himself a little bit better if he wants to prove that he truly is worth a first round pick. What is a pick worth, if they are not on the field? He is determined to do that, and has dieted to bring his weight down a little bit.
NFL teams that were missing an interior presence on the defense had Jordan Davisn at or near the top of their boards.
Davis totaled 32 tackles and two sacks in his most recent season at Georgia. NFL teams will have a difficult time planning against him in the middle of the line.
His legacy will never be forgotten at Georgia, but now he moves on to the NFL.
