Georgia Bulldog defensive lineman Travon Walker has been selected first overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft.

He is the first Georgia Bulldog to be selected first since Matthew Stafford in 2009.

What a recruiting nugget this will be for Kirby Smart and staff.

This was one of the most historic pre-draft rises in history. Before the college football playoff, there was serious question as to whether or not Walker was going to stay at Georgia for his senior year. After the wins over Michigan and Alabama en route to a national championship, Walker solidified his status as an NFL draft prospect.

A lot of people thought Walker was good. Nobody thought he was the no.1 pick.

Since January, Walker has risen and risen up experts’ draft boards. He went from being a probable second or third round pick to having the best odds to go first overall the day before the draft.

The day before the draft, Walker made a huge statement, and that is not something that we’ve grown accustomed to from the soft spoken freak of nature.

“I want to be the best, and I know I am the best,” Walker said.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, who have +700 odds to win the AFC South according to FanDuel, think that Walker is the best available player in the 2022 draft.

Walker’s rise has been controversial because of his production, or lack thereof. He only totaled 10.5 sacks in his three seasons in Athens and was not a consistent starter. Aiden Hutchinson had more than that in 2021. People have pointed at the production and said that him being a top-10 pick does not make sense.

His combine and measurables is what did the talking and is what had scouts drooling over him all of the sudden. Walker is 6’5” and 275 pounds and can chase down speedy receivers. He was a star basketball player in high school. He can play inside and outside on the line and can drop back in pass coverage.

If his potential pans out, he will be a monster in the NFL.
