ATHENS - Will Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs dip into Alabama and steal one of the state’s top prospects away from Alabama?

That’s certainly the plan as the Bulldogs have made 4-star EDGE defender Tomarrion Parker‍ a top priority in the 2023 class.

The versatile 6-foot-4 255-pound defensive lineman is one of the best across the South, and he’s been a major target for the Georgia staff for some time now. Parker was back in Athens this past weekend and broke down his visit with Dawg Post.

“I enjoyed that home feeling about UGA”, Parker told Dawg Post. “Everyone is used to me up there and I’m always having a good time while I’m there. They allowed me to tour my coach and his family Sunday before I left on my own which showed me they really want me here. I love how they coach hard and bring you and your family in. They made them feel good knowing if I were to go here they’d have nothing to worry about.”

Parker said that new assistant Chidera Uzo-Diribe and Will Muschamp are the two coaches he’s established a bond with.

“Coach Diribre and coach Muschamp do a great job in recruiting me”, Parker said. “We talk every day and FaceTime every other day to check in to see how’s life going. Coach Kirby does a great job keeping in touch with me and my family with FaceTime calls as well.”

As a prospect, Parker is quick off the ball and lived in the backfield last fall for his Central (AL) squad. He has long arms, he’s strong, and he gets off blocks with ease. He’s great in pursuit and has a knack for getting after the quarterback. He might be an EDGE defender at the next level, but he has the ability to move inside down the road if he continues to add good weight and mass over the next several years.

As a junior last fall, Parker was extremely productive, making 9.5 sacks to go along with 75 tackles and 23 TFLs. He also recovered three fumbles on the year.

Parker is ranked as the No. 10 DL prospect in the country, the No. 9 prospect in Alabama, and the No. 84 overall prospect in the country for the 2023 class.

In the end, this could likely end up a Georgia/Alabama battle for one of the top defenders in the South. According to FanDuel, The Crimson Tide have +200 odds to win the 2022 National Championship, which are the best odds in the country. The Bulldogs have +350 odds to repeat as national champions.
