ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said in a statement on Monday that he was moving forward with the coaching search to replace Matt Luke

“We’re working on finding a coach that will continue to develop our young men and build our strong foundation with the offensive line,” Kirby said in a statement released Monday evening by UGA.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 14-1 season that secured the Dawgs’ first national title since 1980. Georgia took out No. 1 Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff National Title Game in Indianapolis in January.

Luke had been the head coach at Ole Miss for two seasons prior to joining the Bulldogs ahead of the 2020 Sugar Bowl win over Baylor.

Luke announced Monday evening that he was leaving coaching in a statement issued by UGA.

“Matt Luke has made the decision to step away from coaching football,” Kirby said in a statement issued by UGA. “He has been an invaluable part of our staff and played a great role in helping us win a National Championship. We are so appreciative of everything he has done for Georgia Football. Matt, Ashley, and his children have been, and will continue to be, an important part of the Bulldog family and Athens community.”
