ATHENS - According to a report from Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner Herald, Georgia linebacker Nolan Smith was arrested back on January 19th for driving on a suspended license.

“Junior outside linebacker Nolan Smith was charged with driving on a suspended license and speeding in a construction zone — both misdemeanors — on Jan. 19. He was booked into the Barrow County Detention Center but released less than a half hour later, according to online records”, Weiszer’s report said.

One of Georgia’s top defenders from their 2021 CFP National Championship team, Smith decided to return to Athens and play for the Bulldogs just two days before the arrest took place. The Savannah native proved to be a reliable defender and pass rusher all season, ending Georgia’s championsip victory over Alabama with a sack on the final play.

As a junior last fall, Smith made 53 tackles, 4.5 sacks and one INT. He also forced three fumbles and recovered another.

He was a former 5-star prospect from Georgia’s fantastic 2019 class who chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, Clemson, among others.

The Bulldogs have +350 odds to win the 2022-23 CFP Championship according to FanDuel.
