ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs QB JT Daniels is expected to enter the NCAA’s transfer portal soon according to a report in Dawg Nation.

The former five-star prospect and USC Trojan transfer will enter the transfer portal and find a new home for the 2022 season.

It’s been a weird, puzzling career for Daniels, who started the season at QB against Clemson, but lost his position to Stetson Bennett during the season after Daniels could not stay healthy. Bennett led the Bulldogs to their first national championship since 1980.

Daniels showed promise at the end of last season, winning the final four games of the season as a starter, while looking great on the field when he was healthy. It appeared Daniels was on his way to an excellent 2021 season, but injuries led the staff to believe that Bennett gave them the best chance of winning a national championship.

They were right.

Could a healthy JT Daniels all season have led Georgia to a national championship? Possibly. But we'll never really know.

Daniels showed a big arm and the ability to throw for big yards, throwing for 401 yards and four touchdowns in his first start as a Bulldog in a 31-24 win over Mississippi State in 2020. In his career, Daniels beat South Carolina twice, throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns against the Gamecocks in a 45-16 victory in Sanford Stadium this past season.

At the end of the 2020 season, I’m not sure anyone would see JT Daniels entering the transfer portal 12 months later.

In four games during the 2020 season, Daniels was 80 for 119 for 1,231 yards with ten touchdowns. Last season, Daniels was 68 for 94 for with seven touchdowns.

The Bulldogs could see Stetson Bennett return for another season next fall, and they still have backup QBs Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff on the roster with incoming freshman Gunner Stockton also on campus.
