Kirby Smart and Tray Scott do it again on the recruiting trail, landing a commitment from another standout defensive lineman in three-star Shone Washington.
The thick, powerful 6-foot-3 300-pound interior lineman out of New Orleans chose the Bulldogs over Florida and LSU today, giving Georgia their 24th commitment in the 2022 class.
What will Washington bring to Athens?
Quickness and Power.
Washington has shown the ability to dominate at times as he’s incredibly quick off the ball for someone 300+ pounds. If he times the snap correctly, Washington can get into the backfield and disrupt plays before they start.
He’s thick and strong in the lower body and uses his hands well to get off blocks on the interior. He shoots the gaps well against the run and knows how to finish a tackle. He makes an impact and leaves a bruise when he makes a tackle. He plays with leverage and uses his shorter frame to get underneath his opponents pads to drive them backwards.
He’s ranked as a three-star, but you can tell on film that he can be very disruptive from the inside. There’s a lot to like about his game, and while he may not be asked to play early in his career, he could be someone who really benefits from a year or two of learning the system and developing overall.
Washington’s personal trainer since 9th grade, Edge Assasin’s Clyde Alexander, told Dawg Post that the Bulldogs are getting a special player on the defensive line.
“Shone has a rare combination of size, speed, agility, and violence”, Alexander said. “His biggest strength as a player is his ability to be a strong, stout active run defender but also have the ability to pass rush and play with finesse.”
“Georgia fans should know that under no circumstance will Shone ever be afraid to go to war against any opponent. He’s a War Dawg.”
Where do the Bulldogs go from here?
The Bulldogs now have a loaded defensive line group with Washington on board, but Dawg Post still expects some changes between now and Early Signing Day.
Washington gives Georgia six defensive line commits, but Dawg Post still expects four-star Tyre West to sign elsewhere when the time comes. That would open up one more spot on the defensive line with three targets to keep a close eye on.
That would be four-star Christen Miller, four-star Hero Kanu, and four-star Deone Walker.
The Bulldogs currently have 5-star EDGE defender Mykel Williams on the commit list along with 4-star DT Bear Alexander, four-star EDGE Darris Smith, three-star EDGE Carlton Madden and three-star DT Shone Washington.
