ATHENS - Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs remained the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff Top 25 Tuesday night.
The news was expected. The Bulldogs are the only team in the top ten that have not struggled since the first weekend of the season. Alabama, Michigan State and Ohio State struggled over the weekend or lost - shaking up the rankings after another unpredictable weekend in the sport.
Georgia travels to Tennessee this weekend to play the Vols in November for only the eighth time in series history, and the first since 1973. Tennessee has never faced a No. 1-ranked Georgia team. The Vols and Dawgs have played annually since 1992.
Meanwhile, Alabama will play New Mexico Sate, Cincinnati is at South Florida, Oregon travels to Washington State, Ohio State hosts Purdue and Notre Dame goes to Virginia. The game of the week for a top team is Oklahoma’s trip to Baylor. That game was set to be a massive matchup, but the Bears were upset at TCU last weekend.
Kirby said Tuesday night that his team wasn’t focused on anything it can’t control.
“We don’t control outside factors,” he said when asked about very cold weather expected Saturday in Knoxville. “Football teams hunt, you go hunting and you aren't worried about the weather. If you’re worried about the weather, you’re doing the wrong kind of hunting. For us we’re looking at it as we’re going to play a game and the outside factors are nothing but distractions.”
