ATHENS - The Georgia Bulldogs are using two quarterbacks with the No. 1 offensive unit during at least some practices this week two Bulldogs said Wednesday.

JT Daniels is dealing with an upper-body injury as the Bulldogs get ready to take on UAB this weekend. It is the No. 2 Bulldogs’ first home game at full capacity since the Texas A&M game in November of 2019

“JT and Carson (Beck) are both taking reps,” Georgia offensive lineman Warren McClendon said Wednesday after the Bulldogs’ third practice of the week. “JT is coming in there taking reps and then Carson comes in there, too, and takes some reps.”

The move could be precautionary as it is unknown how severe an injury Daniels actually has. One insider told Dawg Post that the injury was “minor”. Still, Beck is getting more than the typical amount of work for a backup quarterback during a regular week of practice insiders say.

“I don't think there is uncertainty. JT and Carson take reps every week,” Georgia receiver Ladd McConkey said Wednesday. “We are confident in both of them. We are confident in either way that goes.”

“We are very confident in Carson,” McClendon said. “He’s a good QB. He knows what to do, and he knows his stuff. He’s always taking notes in meetings.”

McConkey added: “Carson is smart. He's going to get you into the right play. He's sneaky athletic. I have confidence in all of our quarterbacks.”

The Bulldogs return to work on Saturday in Athens, Ga., versus UAB at 3:30 p.m.  The game will be played on Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium and will be televised by ESPN2.
