Where are Georgia Bulldog Commits and Targets Playing This Weekend?
High school football is back in the peach state and this opening weekend will feature some top Georgia Bulldog commitments and targets in some of the biggest games.
Where are they playing this weekend? Which games do you need to keep an eye one?
Dawg Post takes a look...
Rabun County at Jefferson:
The biggest game to know about for Georgia fans, this matchup with feature 4-star QB commit Gunner Stockton going up against 5-star ATH commit Malaki Starks. Two of Georgia’s highest-ranked commitments, look for both to make a big play after big play throughout the game. Starks will see some work on both sides of the ball at QB and DB and he’s ranked by Dawg Post as the No.2 player in the state.
Stockton will have a tough task on his hands, but his ability to run and score on any particular play always gives them a chance.
2024 ATH Sammy Brown is also a name to know at Jefferson and he’ll be playing linebacker and running back. He’s one of the top 2024 prospects in the country.
Buford at North Cobb:
This is a game folks have been talking about all off-season. North Cobb has the chance to make a state title run in 7A this year but they’ve got their hands full against Buford, arguably thee top team in the state regardless of class.
4-star WR De'Nylon Morrissette is at North Cobb but a hand injury will keep him out of the game. The Warriors also have UGA DB commit Marquis Groves-Killebrew on board and he’ll be asked to play both DB and WR against the Wolves this weekend. North Cobb also has returning QB Malachi Singleton, one of the top 2023 QB prospects in the South.
The Wolves are loaded with D1 talent and have players committed to Stanford (QB Ashton Daniels), Alabama (Safety Jake Pope), Florida (Isaiah Bond), among others. The only true Georgia target they have is elite WR/DB Khalil Bolden, one of the nation’s top prospects in the 2024 class. While they have both Pope and Bond at WR, Bolden might be the best option on the team and the team’s top overall player across the board .
Cedartown at Denmark:
The big prospect to watch here is Georgia LB commit C.J. Washington. The Cedartown star will line up at running back and linebacker for the Bulldogs so he’s expected to have a big night. He’ll have a tough test in Denmark, an up-and-coming program loaded with young talent.
Two Denmark Danes to keep an eye on are 2023 OL Shamurad Umarov and 2023 LB Dee Crayton. Neither hold a Georgia offer at the moment but there’s a chance both might have one down the road.
Grayson vs. Creekside:
New Bulldog commitment Griffin Scroggs and the Rams will look to repeat as 7A champs as they host Creekside to open the season. Scroggs has had a big summer and has become one of the top offensive line prospects in Georgia over the last 12 months. The Rams also have 2024 ATH Joseph Stone, a possible five-star in his class who could get some reps at QB this weekend.
Tift County vs. Westover:
Down in South Georgia is where you’ll find 4-star DL commit Tyre West. The 4-star has been a long-time Georgia commitment and he’s looking to have a monster senior season as an interior defensive lineman.
Appling County vs. Monroe:
Georgia commit Darris Smith will be on hand and trying to prove he’s one of the top defenders in the state. He’s a long, athletic outside linebacker who hasn’t even scratched the surface of his potential. He runs really well for someone 6-foot-6 225-pounds and has the length and explosiveness off the edge to get to the QB with ease. He could also get some reps on offense this fall.
Calhoun vs. Dalton:
Georgia WR commit Cole Speer will be out to prove why he's one of the top playmaking WRs in the state. He's a speedy, explosive receiver who has a chance to take over games as a senior this fall.
