It’s been a solid week on the recruiting trail for Kirby Smart and Cortez Hankton as it relates to wide receiver recruiting.
The Bulldogs added a commitment from one of the state’s top WR prospects last week in three-star Cole Speer of Calhoun (GA), and earlier this week five-star receiver Luther Burden, a major target in this current cycle, de-committed from Oklahoma. The Missouri Tigers are believed to be the team in front behind the scenes for Burden, but sources say Georgia is still a major player for him right.
That wasn’t the only good news this week. On Monday, four-star wide receiver target Andre Greene Jr. released his “Final 6” and the Bulldogs made the cut. The 6-foot-3 175-pounder also included Clemson, Oregon, North Carolina, LSU, and Penn State to his final group.
Greene Jr. took his official visit to Georgia the weekend of June 11th and he came away impressed with what the Bulldogs have to offer.
“UGA is a great school academically, has high level football playing in the SEC, and the relationships are wonderful,” Greene Jr. told Dawg Post. “They have a history of success.”
“Coach Hankton is down to earth”, Greene Jr. added. “During my visit, he spent a lot of time not only with me, but with my parents. That showed me he listened that family is everything to me.”
Georgia Bulldogs QB JT Daniels: Is He Really “The Man”?
Covid-19 caused his junior season to be moved to this past spring where he was only able to play in three games. He caught 12 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns in those games.
The Bulldogs currently have three wide receiver commitments in the 2022 including 4-star De'Nylon Morrissette, 3-star Dillon Bell and 3-star Cole Speer. The Bulldogs likely have room for just one more wide-out in this class if all three stay on board when it’s time to sign. Other targets include 5-star Luther Burden and 4-star Jayden Gibson.
Greene Jr. is ranked as the No.9 wide receiver prospect, the No.3 prospect in Virginia, and the No.71 overall prospect in the country.
