ATHENS - Another former Georgia Bulldog will be playing for the Auburn Tigers this fall.
This time it is former UGA receiver Demetris Robertson, who transferred to Georgia in 2018 from Cal. Robertson is the third former Bulldog to transfer to Auburn since 2012. Nick Marshall and Trey Matthews, both former defensive backs under Mark Richt, transferred to play for the Tigers after signing and playing for the Bulldogs.
Robertson is using a rare NCAA bylaw that allows permits another season of competition for players who would have extinguished eligibility in 2020.
The move comes after three seasons in Athens that netted a combined 42 catches for 443 total yards and three touchdowns. Robertson only had ten catches for 110 yards in 2020. Multiple outlets reported his transfer from UGA earlier this year.
Robertson will be immediately eligible to play for Auburn due to a change in the SEC’s transfer policy that took effect earlier this year. The move to Auburn means Robertson will dress out for the third college program in his six-year college run. The former 5-star player from Savannah picked Cal over the Bulldogs, Alabama and Notre Dame in the spring of 2016 at the College Football Hall of Fame.
Robertson got in trouble in Athens earlier this spring. UGA police issued an arrest warrant earlier this year due to Robertson allegedly removing a parking boot at the East Campus Parking Deck in February.
The move comes days after the Bulldogs added former five-star WR Arik Gilbert transferred from LSU to Kirby Smart’s Georgia program. Robertson was one of four players returning for an additional senior season at Georgia. Justin Shaffer, Devonte Wyatt and Julian Rochester are set to return for another final season this fall.
