ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs lost a 5-star commitment on Monday.
Bear Alexander, who had visited the Bulldogs last week and affirmed his commitment to the program, said on Monday that he was backing away from his pledge to the Bulldogs.
“I am blessed and appreciate the opportunities that Georgia has offered me to be a part of the Bulldog family," Alexander said on social media. “The landscape of football has changed tremendously since I last visited with schools and though still one of my top choices, I am officially de-committing from Georgia and reopening my recruitment. I want to thank Bulldog Nation for all the support over the time of my commitment.”
The announcement moves the Bulldogs back to 11 commitments in the class of 2022.
“The news - Bear Alexander opening his recruitment - is not surprising. Dawg Post has been reporting for months that the Bulldogs would still need to recruit him like he’s uncommitted if they were going to land his signature in December,” Dawg Post’s Matt DeBary said Monday. “Alexander was in College Station for the Aggies’ spring game in April and was back in town this past weekend after visiting Georgia last week. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs still have plenty of options at defensive tackle as they continue to target 5-star Walter Nolen and 5-star Travis Shaw among others.”
