KIRBY: Good Enough to Play; Old Enough to Play

August 3, 2018

ATHENS - Kirby Smart’s relentless pursuit of more and more talent to his program was explained further on Friday.

“If you are good enough to start you are old enough to start,” he said.

Pretty simple.

Kirby’s philosophy mirrors that of my old college basketball coach Dan Schmotzer. My freshman year, Coach had signed six freshmen to play for Coker. When we went against the starters in practice he would often get frustrated with us (I still wonder why).

“You are either young good, or young bad,” he would scream at us.
