Georgia Bulldogs Coach Kirby Smart Breaks Down Dawgs' Scrimmage

ATHENS - The Georgia Bulldogs completed their second scrimmage of spring football on Saturday.
Head coach Kirby Smart said the Bulldogs are gearing up for the annual G Day scrimmage on April 17th.
“I was pleased with the effort and enthusiasm. It probably wasn't the best execution standpoint. We did have some rain,” Smart said of the scrimmage, which was moved at one point from Sanford Stadium to UGA’s Payne Indoor Facility.
Georgia enters the 2021 season with high expectations for the fall. The Bulldogs open the season with a huge showdown in Charlotte against Clemson. UGA returns a slew of starters on the offensive side of the ball including quarterback JT Daniels, who said Tuesday that he had high expectations for the Dawgs.
“There’s no denying that we do want to win a (national title). I think we have the team to do it,” Daniels said. “Coach Smart has done a really good job of instilling a team standard and a team DNA that a lot of guys have really taken accustom to. There’s a lot of good things going for the team.”
Perhaps the main focus of the spring has been establishing who the cornerbacks will be for the upcoming season as well as the man responsible for being Daniels’ backup this fall. Smart has provided few clues regarding both issues this spring.
“The defensive backs are coming along. We have a long way to go, but we are getting there. I have not seen any regress. We have to figure out who it is. We have had guys at that spot dinged up,” Smart said. “We are not where we need to be, but I was not expected to be there.”
