ATHENS - The devastating blows continue this off-season for Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs

Sophomore receiver Jermaine Burton‍ suffered a lower-body injury during Tuesday’s practice, according to the Athens Banner-Herald. Insiders at practice told Dawg Post that Burton was executing a simple passing play and “twisted it wrong”. Dawgs247 reported that Burton “hyperextended his knee”.

It is unclear how serious Burton’s injury is, but the Banner-Herald reported that Burton was carted off the practice field Tuesday. UGA officals did not return Dawg Post’s calls regarding the injury.

This is the second injury to a starting receiver for the Bulldogs in a week. Last week George Pickens suffered an ACL injury which will knock him out of the start of Georgia’s season, and could mean he has played his final snap in Silver Britches.

Georgia’s offense saw a surge at the end of the 2020 season as Burton, Pickens and JT Daniels throttled foes in the passing game. The Bulldogs were hoping to return those two as well as add Dominick Blaylock, who missed 2020 with an ACL injury, to make the 2021 unit of receivers arguably the best in school history.

That hope is now sidetracked due to the off-season injuries at the spot. Stay tuned to Dawg Post for more on this breaking news. Please sign up for our insider newsletter right now to stay up to date on the Dawgs.
