Is former Georgia Bulldog Richard Seymour a Pro Football Hall Of Famer?

His numbers and Super Bowl rings says he is, and there’s a good chance he’ll be inducted this year in his first year of eligibility.

Seymour of course played for the New England Patriots after his career in Athens when he was selected 6th overall to New England in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Seymour was an outstanding player for Georgia in his four years, totaling 223 tackles (106 solos), 9.5 sacks, 25.5 tackles for losses and 35 quarterback pressures. Seymour was a two-time All-SEC selection and was named 1st-team All-American as a senior.

As good as he was in college, his professional career was even better. Seymour proved the Patriots were correct in drafting him No.6 overall and helped lead a very good Patriots defense to three Sup Bowl victories. The South Carolina native played in the NFL for over a decade and ended his career with the Raiders after a phenomenal run in New England.

For his career, Seymour made 498 combined tackles with 91 TFLs and 57.5 sacks. He was a 7-time Pro Bowler and was named 1st-Team All-Pro for three years. He was as consistent as any defensive lineman in the league and was eventually named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade team

Seymour’s former Patriots teammate, legendary QB Tom Brady, gave Seymour his approval for the Hall earlier this week.

“I would love to see Richard Seymour inducted into NFL HOF. Not only was he a dominant player but a team-first, selfless player who played championship fb each & every wk. He was a cornerstone of the Patriots dynasty & deserves to be recognized for his contributions to fb history.”

That’s as good as it gets. Former Bulldog legend Champ Bailey was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame recently, and now it’s Seymour’s turn to receiver a gold jacket.
