ATHENS - The Zamir White era at Georgia isn’t over just yet.

After a long decision about possibly leaving early and entering the NFL Draft in April, Georgia’s leading rusher from 2020 has decided he has some “unfinished business” and will be back for the 2021 season.

The former 5-star was one of the top overall prospects in the country when he committed to Georgia, checking off every box coaches look for in a running back. The top-ranked running back in the 2018 class chose the Bulldogs over Clemson, Alabama, among others. Expectations for White couldn’t be higher, but that’s when the injuries came. White tore his ACL as a senior in high school and tore it again right before the start of the 2018 season.

White recovered from both injuries and made his mark at Georgia as a red-shirt freshman in 2019. In his second season, in a back-up role, White rushed 78 times for 408 yards. He ended the season with a big performance against Baylor in the Sugar Bowl where he rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.

As a red-shirt sophomore this fall, White showed why he was ranked where he was out of high school. The 6-foot-0 215-pounder rushed 144 times this fall for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns. He ran with power, but also showcased his speed and big-play ability. His career-best game came against Kentucky where he rushed 26 times for 136 yards and one touchdown.

The Bulldogs have a loaded backfield once again now that Zamir White and James Cook have both decided to return for another season Between the Hedges. Georgia also has depth at the position with Kenny McIntosh coming off his best year, along with upcoming sophomores Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards to go along with incoming freshman Lovasea Carroll.
