ATHENS - Saturday night UGA coach Kirby Smart updated reporters on which Georgia Bulldogs are expecting to play in Friday’s 2021 Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
UGA’s Azeez Ojulari, Mark Webb and even recovering-from-injury Richard LeCounte III are hoping to play Friday.
“Azeez is going to play,” Smart told reporters Saturday night.
Ojulari made a splash in the 2019 Sugar Bowl with his performance in that game. Since then he’s proven to be one of the top pass rushers in the SEC. His name continues to be listed as one of the top NFL prospects in college football.
“Mark Webb is playing. I don’t know why people keep listing his name (as skipping the bowl game),” Smart said. “Richard LeCounte trying to do everything he can do to play in the game. And he has been battling to come back. He’s been at every practice. He’s been at every rehab session. For whatever reason there is a lot of bad information out there.”
LeCounte has not played since suffering an injury in an accedent the night after the Bulldogs’ 14-3 win over Kentucky on October 31.
Legge's Thoughts: UGA Pretty Close to Full Strength for the Peach Bowl vs. Cincinnati
Smart said that Tre McKitty , Monty Rice Cleveland (shoulder), Monty Rice (foot) and Eric Stokes (declared for NFL Draft) are not expected to play in Friday’s game
The Bulldogs returned to campus Saturday and went through the first of three COVID tests to get ready for the game. Smart said he was concerned with the possibility that some of the players in the program could test out of the game during the week.
“I’m focusing on Cincinnati, Cincinnati and COVID,” Smart said.
The No. 9 Bulldogs are facing No. 8 Cincinnati in the 2021 Peach Bowl on Friday. It is the Bulldogs’ fourth New Year’s Six bowl appearance in the last four years.
