ATHENS - Multiple Georgia Bulldogs have decided not to play in No. 8 UGA’s upcoming New Year’s Six Bowl game.
UGA linebacker Monty Rice and UGA defensive back DJ Daniel will most skip the bowl game according to reporting from both UGA Sports and 247. Rice has been battling injuries the bulk of his senior season in Athens.
The Athens Banner-Herald reported Friday that UGA tight end Tre McKitty is still considering if he will play in the bowl game. This was McKitty’s first and only season with the Bulldogs after transferring into the program this offseason.
It remains to be seen what will happen with seniors Ben Cleveland and Richard LeCounte. Both players have been invited to participate in the Senior Bowl just after New Year’s. Cleveland was unable to play in the Sugar Bowl last year. LeCounte, on the other hand, has missed all of the Bulldogs’ games since he suffered an injury on a motorcycle accident the night after the Bulldogs took out Kentucky 14-3 on Halloween.
On Thursday, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl CEO Gary Stokan told Dawg Post that the Bulldogs’ playing in Atlanta in the New Year’s Day bowl would attract a huge audience on TV.
“With Georgia being in the semifinal and National Championship Game lately, now unlike any other time since maybe the 1980s with Herschel, UGA is a huge national brand and TV opportunity for our title sponsor and the game.”
