ATHENS - Georgia will not play again until a likely New Year’s Six game in a few weeks.

That’s according to a statement from UGA regarding the program’s scramble to fill the game with only six day’s notice.

“While we conducted our due diligence in finding a replacement game, we were unable to make it happen,” said UGA AD Greg McGarity in the statement.  “We now focus on our upcoming Bowl game.  We are also working on alternative ways to honor our senior class, who deserve the opportunity to be celebrated as one of the most prolific classes in University of Georgia history.”

The Bulldogs finish the regular season 7-2 and ranked No. 8 in the College Football Playoff rankings

According to UGA, the Vandy-UGA game was cancelled due to the Vanderbilt football squad size and position availability falling below roster minimum requirements, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 protocols. The Vanderbilt at Georgia game was declared a no-contest by the Southeastern Conference office.

The Bulldogs played only three home games in 2020, and are looking forward to a more normal 2021. Kirby Smart is expected to make comments regarding the situation later today in a regularly-scheduled call with reporters. The Bulldogs will wait until Sunday to find out where they are playing in a bowl game, but insiders expect the Bulldogs to most likely play in the Peach Bowl, but the final determination on that remains up in the air and is predicated on the outcomes of the ACC and SEC Championship Games.
