UGA AD: We’ve Gone Through the Entire Year Without a COVID Outbreak
ATHENS - Georgia’s athletic director Greg McGarity was hoping for a home game this weekend to send the UGA seniors off right.
That’s not going to happen this Saturday, which frustrated the outgoing AD.
“We test people three times a week, and we have not had any significant issues with COVID this fall,” he said in and interview with Dawg Post. “It proves that you can deal with the virus if you follow the protocols in place.”
McGarity went on to add that several programs in the SEC have not been effected inside their programs with widespread COVID problems.
“We’ve gone through the entire year without a COVID outbreak,” he said. “That’s the case with Alabama, South Carolina, UK, and there are probably five or six in the SEC who have not had to cancel because of COIVD. It can be done, but it takes a tremendous amount of discipline and want to play.”
McGarity added that he’s seen the sacrifice the players at UGA have made in order to get the season in during a pandemic.
"What our players have done is tremendous,” he said "If they didn’t want to play football you would see it. If you want to do it you follow the protocols. If you didn’t want to do it you would-be all over the place… downtown; at a bar; wherever. Our student-athletes and coaches have made those sacrifices, and they have their health to show for it, but there is nothing to show for it on the field.”
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Missouri on December 12 and have a home date with Vanderbilt scheduled for December 19.
